Education module 04 · KS2

Primary accountability, KS2

The KS2 measures in the DfE's primary accountability technical guide, reported for each school and reproduced at trust level.

Measures

  • Percentage of pupils meeting the expected standard in reading, writing and maths combined: a scaled score of 100 or more in reading and maths, and writing teacher-assessed at the expected standard or greater depth.
  • Percentage achieving the higher standard: 110 or more in reading and maths, and greater depth in writing.
  • Average scaled scores in reading and maths.
  • KS1–KS2 progress in reading, writing and maths.
  • Grammar, punctuation and spelling at the expected and higher standard.
  • Breakdowns for disadvantaged, EAL, gender, non-mobile and prior attainment groups, with 3-year averages and time series.

Trust-level measures

The DfE weights each academy by its pupil numbers and its years in the trust (capped at 4), and only includes trusts with at least 3 schools that have been in the trust for 3 years or more. IDS reproduces these weighted trust measures and shows the effect of each academy on them.

Context for 2025/26

  • KS1–KS2 progress measures return for 2025/26 and 2026/27, after two years without them (there was no KS1 data for those cohorts). From 2027/28 the baseline will be the reception baseline assessment.
  • Provisional 2025/26 data went to schools on 7 September 2026. Revised data is published in December 2026.
What the module does not do

DfE guidance says schools should not try to predict pupil or school progress scores before provisional data is released, and should not share individual pupil progress scores with pupils or parents. The module follows that guidance. It analyses provisional and published outcomes, compares schools across the trust, and tracks in-year attainment. It does not predict progress scores.
