16–19 accountability

The DfE's 16–19 accountability measures for students completing 16–19 study in 2025/26, reported by cohort, school and trust.

Measures

Value added (progress)
By cohort — A level, academic, applied general, tech level and level 2 technical certificate. Each student's result is compared with students of similar KS4 prior attainment nationally, with confidence intervals and bandings.
Attainment
Average point score per entry, expressed as a grade, by cohort; best 3 A levels; AAB with at least two facilitating subjects; level 3 maths; T Level attainment.
Retention
Students retained to the end of their core aim, plus retained and assessed, and returned and retained for a second year.
English and maths progress
For students without a grade 4 at KS4.
Destinations
Sustained education, apprenticeship or employment after 16–19 study.
Trust level
The DfE publishes value added and attainment at trust level for eligible MATs, for the academic and applied general cohorts. IDS reproduces these for all trusts.

Changes in 2025/26

Alternative academic qualifications (AAQs) are included from 2025/26. The DfE consulted from April to July 2026 on changes to 16–19 measures and will update the guidance after its response. The platform follows those changes.
